GOOBUR

22 Oct

Dinner at GooBur. they specialize in mini sliders, an order comes with 2 juicy bite sized burgers.

nutcracker themed menu. :)

we had chicken wings to start.. along with a ton of other yummies. i didn’t get pictures of all the dishes, but there’s quite a large selection of appetizers to choose from.

a trio of salsas, pico de gallo, green medium and red spicy. with tortilla chips (not pictured.) i love chips and salsa!

beef hawaiian sliders. with a pineapple chutney sauce. crispy fries on the side. we tried quite a few different types that night, but i think the beef patty sliders were my favorite.

a different spin on sliders- a gourmand’s take, with duck and pear.

cocktail: tiramisu martini. tasted like deSSErt! yuM.

dessert burger, with chocolate spread on the slider buns, candied citrus peels and vanilla bean ice cream.

19 Oct

an italian cafe tucked away in Hua Shan.

we dropped in for lunch after a visit to the Guanghua Tech market.

quaint, with an eclectic mix of decor, and dark woods with long open airy windows.

for lunch they do sets, with a drink, soup and pasta entree. above is their minestrone with bacon and a teeny bit of orzo. it was flavorful but a little on the oily side for my taste.

penne pasta with pesto, chicken and mushrooms. generous portion sizes, with big pieces of pan fried chicken. the sauce was  creamy, and had some flavors (asian-ish) that i couldn’t place. not your traditional italian flavors, but still pretty good.  you can think of it as fusion cuisine.

i also ordered a tiramisu. it came out semi frozen, which i believe was an accident, but it was surprisingly good that way. i think it needed more coffee. it was mostly marscapone and a little cocoa in flavor… it tasted more like a semifreddo.

wei lu: sour cabbage pot

16 Oct

sour cabbage hot pot, for two!

dinner @ wei lu, in tapei. an old school style hotpot restaurant.

this was the “small sized pot” for two. the soup base includes some pork, sour cabbage, and frozen tofu.

the accoutrements: sauce station. i used soy, vinegar, sesame oil, lots of garlic, and scallions + cilantro.

i also made a second sauce, with all of the above, plus the thick sesame sauce. (good with pork)

beef, enoki mushrooms and veggies for the pot- pretty generous portions. and thats b’s glass of sour plum juice. (not for me!)

sO good. the sesame pockets “sao bing”. my favorite carb to eat with sour pot!! ( i don’t usually take rice)

closeup of the pot, with their “gong wan” beef and seafood… “balls” for the lack of a better word.

deLish. great on a rainy day.

goose.

9 Oct

goose meat! in tianmu eating local taiwanese cuisine for lunch.

yep its one of those places. local and good.

raw bitter melon… with thousand island dressing. LOL. the raw bitter melon was good- crunchy and fresh! ( didnt use the thousand island after the first piece.. ><)

pork with ginger.

“oily” tofu. a dish of marinated bamboo shoots behind..

pork blood rice soup. sounds gross translated into english, but its pretty good.

stewed pork over rice! my favorite. really faTTy pork, cooked in its juices for a long time.. oily, flavorful, deLishhh.

the goose meat. we got the “back half” of the goose.. darker meat. juicy and fatty, full of flavor. really good with fresh ginger.

“dong fen” vermicelli noodles with sauce and some veggies.. simple and filling. i only ate half because i ate most of the pork oil rice.

i snuck a picture of the oily stewed pork on my way out.. see all the fat? the yummiest things are the worst for you… O_o
